HST stands for Harmonized Sales Tax which is the combination of Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) into one unified tax. On July 1st, 2010 British Columbia and Ontario will also be adopting HST at 12% and 13% respectively.
HST has been shrouded by negativity with many believing the overall effects will not be good for British Columbia and Ontario. There are many websites out there fronting petitions to stop HST and one I came across recently is BCNDP. This site is particularly against HST but is also a very good resource for all things HST. One useful feature on their site is their online HST calculator.
This Calculator allows you to add your expenditure input to get estimation on what the harmonized tax could cost you. If you are wondering how much HST will cost you, click here..
